The Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Alex Crawford, visited the Gurkha Bhawan on 12 July 2011 at 1000 hours for a meeting with the President of the Greater Rushmoor Borough Nepali Community (Chair British Gurkha Welfare Society) Major (retd) Tikendra Dewan.
The meeting was specifically aimed at discussing the current issues involving Nepali migration and extended to equal pensions for Gurkhas. The meeting lasted for some two hours, during which the Mayor and the President GRNC had a very constructive and in-depth discussion on the problems encountered and their possible solutions. The Mayor strongly supports the Nepali community and, in appreciation of its excellent work, he has selected Maddhat Shamuha as one of his official charities for 2011.
The Mayor was given a short tour of Gurkha Bhawan and the Radio station, which awaits confirmation on its planning application for the antenna to be erected within the Gurkha Bhawan compound. The programme concluded with the Mayor signing the visitors' book.
